Scenes from my first Christmas

Yes, this is my First Christmas.....as a Deacon of course. Fr. Andrew reminded me and the entire congregation of that, along with the story ...

Time

There is an appointed time for everything, ECCL 3:1

This will be the first line of tomorrow morning's first reading. Ironically, this is something I think many of us including myself have been struggling with. From Jim Croce one of my all time favorite singer/songwriter .....

"But, there never seems to be enough time to do the things you want to do, once you find them!"

This morning I got the chance, the time, to speak with a very dear friend, Tom, who also got ordained with Mike and I. We both commented how our lives have gotten busy, especially the weekends. For four years we spent so much time together, yet since ordination this year, we've spoken on the phone probably three times. Luckily we vacationed a week together, yet, there just doesn't seem to be enough time.

Today I hope to change that. I know this won't be a radical change, yet, even a phone call could change that. I have three other people I have been thinking of. It's time for me to give them a call.

These moments, have been appointed to us, and it's really up to us to take advantage of them and set this world on fire!

After all, the final words of this wonderful passage encourages us so well..

He has made everything appropriate to its time,
and has put the timeless into their hearts,
without man’s ever discovering,
from beginning to end, the work which God has done.

Your vocation

Yesterday I came across this quote and I have to say that these words sum up how I feel about being a Deacon.

"You will know your vocation by the joy that it brings you. You will know. You will know when it’s right.” Dorothy Day

Peace,

Deacon Mitch

Another classic!
